Project Engineer                               

Pacific Northern Gas Ltd., a subsidiary of AltaGas Ltd., owns and operates natural gas transmission and distribution systems. The Company’s western transmission line extends from the Spectra Energy gas transmission system north of Prince George to Kitimat and Prince Rupert, and provides services to twelve communities and a number of industrial facilities. In the northeast, Pacific Northern Gas (N.E.) Ltd. provides gas distribution service in the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and Tumbler Ridge areas.

 

With a small technical team located in Terrace, BC, PNG is seeking to add a Project Engineer with experience in the gas industry to supplement our existing team.  The Project Engineer will be accountable to the Manager, Engineering & Special Projects and will be responsible for the overall success of assigned projects through the entire project life cycle. Subsequently, the Project Engineer will provide technical support to construction, maintenance, and operations groups through the associated asset life cycle.

 

Responsibilities

  • Natural gas transmission and distribution system design in accordance with applicable standards.
  • The management of engineering activities, both in-house and those let to contract, from conceptual to final detailed design and implementation.
  • The overall management of select projects, including scoping, justifying, planning, scheduling, and resourcing, as well as managing cost, quality, and the health, safety, and environmental aspects associated with the work.
  • Assisting in the prioritization of work conducted by company draftspersons
  • Contributing to the improvement of project control and execution through the further development of standards and management tools.

 

Duties

  • Prepare, schedule, coordinate, execute, and monitor the assigned engineering projects
  • Produce and/or oversee designs in accordance with applicable codes, standards, practices, QA/QC policies, specifications.
  • Coordination and communication with both internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure that designs and deliverables are in accordance with individual needs.
  • Project cost, quality, and schedule control
  • Lead and/or work within project teams to ensure effective project delivery, providing technical and/or other support as required.
  • Produce, review, revise, and approve engineering deliverables.
  • Assist in and/or lead project procurement activities.
  • Review and revision of company standards, procedures, processes, and policies, associated with design, construction, maintenance, and operations.  Coordinate and manage communications, relationships, and project submissions with regulatory bodies such as the BC Oil and Gas Commission, MFLNRO, MoTI, municipalities, and regional districts.
  • Identify, mitigate, and manage project risk

 

 

Experience & Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in an applicable discipline (mechanical or chemical).
  • P.Eng licensed to practice in the province of British Columbia (APEGBC).  Engineer-in-Training candidates or Engineers eligible for APEGBC registration may also be considered.
  • 5+ years proven experience (preferred) in design, project engineering, and project management in an associated oil & gas environment. Experience in other industrial environments may be considered.
  • Fluent in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, Powerpoint)
  • Preferred fluent understanding of the standards, regulations, and best practices associated with the transmission and distribution of natural gas
  • Ability to develop and manage multiple discipline projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Past experience monitoring and managing field construction
  • Sound decision-making and leadership capability
  • Past experience in a unionized work environment an asset
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation an asset
  • Past supervisory experience an asset
  • Ability to assess problems and issues in a practical, process oriented manner.

 

Other Considerations / Additional Information:

  • Position home base will be Terrace Office.
  • Some travel required.
