Manager Technical Services

Pacific Northern Gas Ltd., a subsidiary of AltaGas Ltd., owns and operates natural gas transmission and distribution systems. The Company’s western transmission line extends from the Spectra Energy gas transmission system north of Prince George to Kitimat and Prince Rupert, and provides services to twelve communities and a number of industrial facilities. In the northeast, Pacific Northern Gas (N.E.) Ltd. provides gas distribution service in the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and Tumbler Ridge areas.

Reporting to the General Manager Operations, this position is located in our Terrace, BC office. The Manager Technical Services is responsible for the overall management and technical direction of PNG’s compressor, corrosion, gas measurement, fleet management and warehouse functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate & supervise the operation of the company’s compressor, corrosion, measurement, warehouse, and communications (SCADA) activities
  • Manage procurement, disposal, licensing, and insurance of the PNG vehicle fleet
  • Direct supervision of 8 technical employees
  • Develop and assist with the annual budget for the areas of responsibility, and monitor the cost including reporting on variances on a monthly basis
  • Prepare detailed monthly report including current and emerging issues, status of ongoing projects, progress towards objectives, and plans for the next month.
  • Represent the company with respect to operating and construction maintenance, emergency procedures, fire departments, environmental issues, aboriginal bands, municipal offices, and other outside agencies

Duties:

  • Procure resources, develop budgets, and control costs
  • Follow & implement standards for policy, procedure, processes, and objectives
  • Develop strategies, measure progress and take corrective or disciplinary action as required
  • Bench mark best practices of other similar companies
  • Responsible for ensuring healthy labor relations environment
  • Manage department Safety and Environmental initiatives
  • Supervise, train, and lead direct reports
  • Perform Manager on call duties on a rotational basis which involves monitoring the daily gas supply, monitoring the pipe line system via the SCADA system, and dispatching employees as required

 

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation Engineering Technologist
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive industry experience, 5 years in a supervisory roll
  • Proven leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Proven organizational skills and problem solving ability
  • Ability to travel, significantly, to and from outlying company locations
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a highly detailed environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Approachable, flexible and able to adapt in a fluid work environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong computer and data analysis skills
