Draftsperson

Pacific Northern Gas Ltd., a subsidiary of AltaGas Ltd., owns and operates natural gas transmission and distribution systems. The Company’s western transmission line extends from the Spectra Energy gas transmission system north of Prince George to Kitimat and Prince Rupert, and provides services to twelve communities and a number of industrial facilities. In the northeast, Pacific Northern Gas (N.E.) Ltd. provides gas distribution service in the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and Tumbler Ridge areas.

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering & Special Projects, and working under the direction and prioritization of senior departmental personnel, the Draftsperson will be a core member of the PNG Engineering Department responsible for the generation of technical documentation relied upon for the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the PNG transmission and distribution system pipelines and facilities. The Draftsperson will be required to work closely with Construction Maintenance and Operational departments’ personnel on a daily basis, and field work away from the Terrace office is to be expected for the purposes of field data collection and system record verification.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and update maps, mosaics and design drawings using applications such as 2-D and 3-D CADD along with GIS, for distribution and transmission facilities.
  • Prepare construction and as-built drawings and maintain detailed plant records of all facilities.
  • Transform conceptual engineering sketches into design drawings.
  • Provide direction to the Draftsperson Trainee and/or Junior Draftsperson.
  • Liaise with field personnel on drafting related activities.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 education.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in drafting including at least one year in a related field.
  • Experience in building and maintaining block libraries
  • Experience in defining and maintaining corporate drafting standards
  • Well versed in web related mapping applications
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills
  • Experience with GIS implementation and data base management would be considered an asset
  • Experience in 3D design with preference to mechanical applications considered an asset
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

This position is within the bargaining unit (IBEW)
