DONATIONS & PUBLIC RELATIONS
PNG’s Corporate Donations Committee is responsible for administering charitable donations. Key criteria are that the requesting organizations have a presence in their community and that they serve a broad section of the community. The following factors are also considered:
- Donations benefit people living within the communities served by PNG;
- Funds are spread evenly across the PNG service area;
- A broad and fair cross-section of organizations are assisted.
PNG makes donations across its service areas consistent with the foregoing criteria with a view to benefiting a diverse cross section of people and organizations. PNG will also make Public Relations donations for initiatives considered to be for the general public good but which are not by definition charitable donations.
Some examples of PNG’s contributions are listed below:
Lakes District Tragedy Fund
In the wake of the January 2012 Babine Forest Products Mill fire, PNG, together with AltaGas Utilities donated $20,000 to the Lakes District Tragedy Fund to assist employees and families who were affected by this tragic event.
Community Crisis Response Unit
PNG contributed $10,000 to the cost of a mobile food service unit capable of providing emergency services to communities in the Western system service area, both remote and rural locations. The unit is based in Terrace and is operated and maintained by the Salvation Army. During a community crisis the Salvation Army is instrumental in providing services to both victims and responders, providing thousands of meals and support to anyone in need.
Northern Medical Programs Trust (UNBC)
PNG is proud to be a $25,000 Silver Supporter of this worthwhile Medical School Program through the University of Northern British Columbia.
Dry Grad Celebrations
In 2002, Pacific Northern Gas began supporting Dry Grad Celebrations in each of the communities within its service area. PNG is committed to contributing to the health and safety of our youth and future young workers. These annual donations will continue into the foreseeable future.
Carrier Sekani Family Services
PNG supported the Carrier Sekani Family Services society with a donation of $5,000. The funds will be used to support the families of women that have gone missing along Highway 16 in the Western system service area, otherwise known as the “Highway of Tears”.
Over the past several decades, PNG is proud to have assisted many organizations and charities in our Northern Communities including Arts, Sports, Youth, Community, Health, Aboriginal, Education, Emergency Response, Cultural, and Wildlife.
Requests for donations can be made in writing to Pacific Northern Gas Ltd., 2900 Kerr Street, Terrace, BC, V8G 4L9, Attention Donations Committee, or faxed to (250) 635-9758.
PNG funds the David Stanonik scholarship at the University of Victoria. This scholarship is awarded each year to a third or fourth year student in the Faculty of Engineering for outstanding academic achievements and is in recognition of David Stanonik, a young engineer tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident while working for PNG. David obtained his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Victoria in 1997.
